~ Robert Shaw, M.D. ~
There are no rules but there are a few guidelines that help achieve this. Making a decision to parent this way as apposed to parent based parenting is the first decision to make and to be consistent with this.
Lower your expectations about a few things as this child will only be this tiny for about six months and what is six months in the big scheme of their life. It won't matter if your housework is not up to speed and you have not washed the ceiling. Being with your baby in constant close proximity is far more important at this time.
Sleeping with your baby is a great way to stay close and for ease of breast feeding at night time. Contrary to what some parents say (those who are not practicing this) this type of parenting is less stressful for everyone involved.
Don't put your baby down to just cry themselves out as some well meaning parents will tell you, this is not good parenting and this is a damaging practice that has no merit in creating the secure attachment with your newborn.
Remember babies are helpless beings with huge brains and they need lots of closeness and touch to develop and use this large brain. The brain is pre-equipped to learn at an amazing rate post birth and in the first five years of life. This is not a coincidence. This is where we guide our future, in these first five golden years.
