~ Soren Kierkegaard ~
Why did they leave the Ale to run and spoil all the meal? There was a good deal of gold in the house.
Frederick put the pretty yellow buttons in the ground. The rogues went and dug up the yellow buttons and left material possessions with Catherine for the buttons. Frederick was not happy. Catherine wanted to run after the rogues. They took butter and cheese for the journey.
Catherine took pity on the trees that were bruised from the rogues running away and greased the wheels with her butter. She caught up with Frederick but she had no butter or cheese only dry bread. She explained they were back on the road and ate the dry bread together.
Frederick asked did she lock the door before she left and she said no and so made off home to do the bolt. She also got nuts and vinegar and took the door off the hinges and brought it to Frederick. He told her to carry the door and fastened the nuts and vinegar to the door.
They didn't find the rogues and so they climbed into a tree to rest. No sooner had they done this when the rogues came along and made a fire under the very tree they were resting in.
Catherine grew tired of holding the door and nuts and vinegar. She wanted to throw down the nuts and let them go. So she let them roll through the boughs of the tree. The rogues thought it was hailing. Then Catherine poured all the vinegar out because she thought that was why it was so heavy. The rogues thought is was a heavy dew falling. Then Catherine wanted to rid herself of the door but Frederick feared they would be discovered. Catherine could no longer hold the door and she let go of it and the rogues cried out Murder and ran away.
Frederick and Catherine gathered up all of their gold and went home.
