I read that one person referred to a Hintergedanke as a hidden agenda.  Well I suspect strongly that if it is something we can't admit, then it is in fact our own 'hidden agenda' as such.  I see it explains it perfectly.  I see that it actually sums it up.  Our duel nature is not all beer and skittles.
